About us
Miho Shimizu and Øyvind Renberg were born in 1976 in Tokyo and Oslo and have collaborated since graduating from Goldsmiths College, London, in the early 2000s. They are currently based in Tokyo and Berlin. Shimizu and Renberg´s work forms an ongoing, visually eclectic visual universe of paintings, murals, collages, sculptures and films. The geographical and cultural distance between them also plays a part, as many projects are developed as a result of travelling. Their sculptures and textile works feature as meticulous and imaginative costumes and set pieces in films, allowing for plots and choreography that explores rhythm, movement and colour.
They just completed the film Möbius, shot on location at the Damsgård 18th century Manor in Bergen, a book published with Hordaland Kunstsenter, and present solo exhibition at Uqbar (Berlin) in the autumn of 2016. Works by Shimizu and Renberg have been exhibited at inIVA (London), Art in General (New York), Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo), Galeria Arsenał (Białystok), Arnolfini Gallery (Bristol), and Preus Museum, Oslo Kunstforening, Stenersen Museum, UKS and Hordaland Kunstsenter (Norway). Residencies include Ssamziespace (Seoul), Peacock Visual Arts (Aberdeen) and Art Center Ongoing (Tokyo). Their work is represented in the collection of Aberdeen Art Gallery Scotland.
